Meeting the other recruits at Kansai Airport in Japan

In this article I’ll discuss my airplane ride to the Kansai Airport, which is located in Osaka. I’ll also talk about the ordeal that occurred while at the airport. Maybe I’m just unlucky.

Champagne Dreamin

Champagne Dreamin

AHHH.. So I was finally on my way to Japan.
It was my first time EVER leaving the US, and it was only my fourth time being on an airplane. It was also the longest flight I had ever been on at the time. I decided to try to relax and a little bit and have a drink on the airplane.
I would arrive in five hours and I was bored.
So I drank some champagne..
Bad idea.
I was in the middle seat so I had to ask to use the restroom, which for me is often after I drink.

Everything ALWAYS Goes As Planned

Everything ALWAYS Goes As Planned

The plan was for everyone who was working at my company to meet at the airport, in a certain location at the Kansai airport.
We should all arrive by at the disclosed location by 4 pm, and then we could all take the shinkansen AKA the bullet train to Okayama.
Which was about 2 hours away by the bullet train.
We could then all rest and settle in at the hotel.
Great plan right!!!?
It's too bad that things don't often go as they should.

The Last Recruit

The Last Recruit

As I stated before, I had drank champagne on the flight to relax a bit. I didn't count on the fact that I couldn't sleep well due to me being in a seated position..
Therefore I was dead tired when I arrived, with a headache and a stomach ache.
EVERYTHING was so amazing at the airport!
There was a glass elevator, a Hello Kitty shop, and a Nintendo stand!!!
I was in heaven, but my body just wanted to sleep.
All of the recruits introduced ourselves and we talked a bit, and then looked around.
We were told that one of us was missing, but that he should arrive soon.
We all decided to try McDonald's, and for the first, and unfortunately last time, I ate the McDonald's shrimp sandwich that's so famous in Japan..
Perhaps...I thought, it should stay only in Japan LOL.
So we ate, still waiting for the last person to arrive..
Seven rolled around, he still want there.
Eight came, we're ALL tired not, where could he be...
Nine comes and goes..
Then at ten, YES TEN PM, he finally arrives!!!
The LAST of 15 recruits.

Can We Relax Now?

Can We Relax Now?

We thought FINALLY we can rest...
Not quite.
We had to RUN now in order to catch the last shinkansen train because we were so late!!!
But caught it we did.
We still had to wait 2 hours to arrive, but I was so relieved we would arrive at the hotel soon.
It turned out that the last recruit had a flown with a Chinese airline, which they WARNED us not to do.
He had a layover in China, and he had no idea when the layover would actually end, and when he would arrive.
That was the reason for his late arrival.
It's just one of many reasons why I would never fly through China, and why I would especially NEVER fly with a Chinese airline.
Anyway, back to our story.
We arrived in Okayama at about 12 AM. Everyone was EXHAUSTED, so we all just went to bed.
Some of the recruits stayed in the company’s dorm, but I was. lucky enough to get my own hotel room. If I stayed at the dorm, I would have had to share my room AND bathroom.
However, since I had already finished university, I saw no need for that torture.

Kumbaya Anybody?

Kumbaya Anybody?

They gave us TWO whole days to rest before we had to start our week of training. During those two days, which isn’t very much by the way, I started to hangout with a girl who’s still my good friend today.
All of us had decided to try to go to the temple in Okayama, however when the day came, my friend and I didn’t get a message from the rest of the group. So, we both just slept in. It was pretty obvious they didn’t want us around, and clicks had begun to form. There was one girl in particular who didn’t like us. She was the leader of said group and didn’t like how my friend or I didn’t let her dominate the conversation.
Mostly everyone hung out with her, while my friend and I were loners.
But it was the most fun I had had in a while!
In the next article, I will say a little more about our adventures in Okayama.
