Why I Prefer Amazon Prime in Japan
In this article, I'll talk about why I'm think of keeping my Amazon Prime.

When I was still living in the United States, my mom paid for Netflix. Then I decided to pay for Hulu on my own. Needless to say, I became addicted to Hulu. I left in 2016, but at the time it pretty much offered EVERYTHING. I loved the fact that it had new shows, but I hated the fact that it contained ads. I also remember, at that time, I had a student membership to Amazon Prime. I tried to watch the Amazon Prime streaming section, but I could never find anything to watch. If I did happen to find something that I knew I would enjoy, guess what, I had to pay! Therefore, I gave up on the Amazon Prime. I only wanted my membership for the shipping lol.

Fast forward to now. I am currently living in Japan. My mom still pays for Netflix LOL. And as I stated in my last article, I'm completely over it. I began to explore my other options. I decided to do a free trial for Amazon Prime. I got an email stating that I could also watch Amazon Prime video with my membership. So, I decided to have a look.

The Bad Points

The Bad Points
First off, let me say that it's a little annoying. Unlike Netflix, even when I change my language to English, the show titles AND descriptions are still in Japanese. I first looked on the website, and then I downloaded the app onto my phone. It's much much worse on the app. There's no language option at all, so I have to just deal with the Japanese only. Luckily, I can still search for shows in English.
Another bad point for me are the subtitles! Unlike Netflix, I can't change the subtitles to English, they are only in Japanese. Of course, I'm sure it depends on the show, but it's still annoying.
Also, just like the American Netflix, there are shows that you have to pay for. There are some shows that allow you to watch one episode for free, and then you must pay for the other episodes. It’s a pretty crappy deal, but it’s amazon. I was also excited to watch the animated Grinch movie for Christmas, but it was only available in Japanese. They’ve dubbed a lot of movies, and tv shows in Japanese, with no English subtitles to go along with that.

The Good Points

The Good Points
Okay, technically Amazon doesn't have as great of a selection as Netflix. I honestly wouldn't replace Netflix with Amazon, but it's a good little side dish. It has a lot of HBO shows, such as: GOT, Silicon Valley, Sharp Objects, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Big Little Lies, ECT. I have been DYING to see Sharp Objects. It's one of the many books I read while I was in the Philippines. It's written by the same author as Gone Girl, and it's very suspenseful, the way I like it.
You can watch the first season of Big Little Lies for free, but not yet the second. I also read that book and LOVED it. I was sad I didn't know they had Big Little Lies because I already watched it..for free LOL.
And lastly, one of my all-time FAVORITE shows, Curb Your Enthusiasm. If you haven't watched this show before, and you love comedies, do yourself a favor and WATCH IT. It's absolutely hilariously. The show is based loosely on Larry David, one of the creators of Seinfeld. He is so funny to watch. I'm happy that Amazon has this show in particular, it's an oldy, but goody. It's also VERY hard to find on streaming services. That's the main reason I'm thinking about keeping my Amazon Prime membership. Oh, and they also have Catfish. They have a lot of other shows as well, but I'm preoccupied at the moment.

If you don't have Amazon Prime, and aren't sure, I would try the free trial to see what you think. Good luck on finding something to watch and fill your time with. This time, I have.
