My First Time at a Japanese Host Club

In this article, I’ll take you along my journey to my first Host Club. It was a fun, and interesting experience.

Shinjuku on a Friday

It was the summer of 2017; I had just finished a somewhat decent date in Shinjuku. It was a Friday night I believe. so it was crowded! Jane and I were texting, and she told me that she was also in Shinjuku. She was with another girl and asked me if I wanted to go for drinks.

Ladies Night

There's a place in Shinjuku and Shibuya, in which girls can drink for FREE!!! They also have some dishes that you can eat for free as well. Jane introduced me to this place. It's free because it's like a dating place. Guys pay to go in. If they see a woman, they like sitting alone, that can approach the woman or group of women. I LOVED it! I could drink for free, and nobody would bother me because I'm not Japanese lol. Anyway, we met for drinks and we discussed what we should do next. Both I, and the other girl had never been to a Host club. But Jane was a frequent visitor, so she decided to take us to try.

Jane, Are There Any Clubs You HAVEN'T Been To?

From the beginning it was sketchy LOL. Jane knew how to work the system. Normally, if you continue to go to a Host club, the price will continue to increase. However, the first time you go, it's only 2,000 yen, or about 20 dollars. So, we had to find a place that Jane hadn't been to so that we could only pay 2,000 yen. There are solicitors on the street of Shinjuku who tell you to come into their bar, or club that they work for. Jane knew a solicitor, and he would help her to find a new host club to visit. He had to call around because many DID NOT want foreigners at their club. And if you’re wondering, YES, there are THAT many hosts clubs in Shinjuku alone. The reason for this was because they think foreigners are too hard to please, and since we can't speak Japanese, they can't con us so much. So, he was finally able to find us a host club that would allow us.

And the Club Was...

It was scary at first, it felt like we went through a ton of back alleys. We had to walk through the Red-Light District of Shinjuku aka Kabukicho, where most are located, it is quite sketchy but safe for non-Japanese. However, when we actually got inside of the club, it was beautiful. I especially loved the bathroom, it had everything I could ever need!! But the men were.......MEH. I was unimpressed. In my opinion, they were not handsome. They just looked like they had on make-up. We saw a housewife there who was speaking with one of them. Supposedly, if a woman buys a bottle, she will get all the attention from the men, so that's the incentive. The incentive is for you to spend as much money as possible. I know this because Jane told me. I think we were unlucky with that host club because Jane had already gone to the best ones, therefore, we had to go to one that was a bit of a reject. They poured my drinks for me, and I was able to get all you can drink for two hours. But to be completely honestly, I was quite bored. The drinks weren’t good for me, and since I can’t speak Japanese, I couldn’t communicate well with them. I was okay with that though; I didn’t want them to bother me. Jane had a good time, but the other girl and I were bored, and we left a bit early.

Are Host Prostitutes?

Jane would often go to the host clubs, and the way it works is that if you like someone there, you can get their LINE account. LNE is an app in Japan that EVERYONE uses. It gives you free calls and texts, so nobody ever gives out their number, except for special occasions. Usually, the host like to get your account information so they can text you. Mostly the guys will text you to tell you to come back to the club, so you can keep spending money. They'll flirt with you and everything. If they really like you, they'll sleep with you, you don't have to pay them of course. So being a host really isn't like prostitution. They are paid to flirt and drink. Jane told me this information, and she herself had slept with a few. Of course, it would never turn into anything serious. They continued to flirt with her and tell her to come back to the club. For me though, once was enough and I don't plan to go back. But it was definitely an experience.
